For many employees, the computer is a constant part of the workplace. More than 40% of office workers spend at least seven hours a day on the screen. This is a continious stress which leads to increased eye problems. Constant head and eye movements between screen, keyboard and template seem particularly stressful. The adjustment of the pupils at varying distances and changing brightness is a permanent stress as well. Complaints caused by this excessive burden are called „Office Eye Syndrome“ or „Computer Vision Syndrome“ (CVS). About 45% of all screen workers suffer from eye complaints. In order to avoid limitations of vision and unnecessary discomfort, it is useful to offer workers an examination for their eyes and their vision faculty.
In order to prevent these burdens and to detect incipient diseases, we offer an examination consisting of the modules Eye Test, Optical Coherence Tomography and Eye Training.
A specialized medical examination at the workplace consists of 3 parts.
The examining doctor collects the medical history. He asks about health problems, such as:
Eye complaints and eye diseases
Disorders of the musculoskeletal system
Continuous treatment with drugs
Anamnesis of the working environment
What does the workplace look like?
Is the monitor properly aligned?
Is the lighting ideal?
Through this anamnesis of the working environment- for example- the optimal visual aid can be determined. Thus, a workplace with public traffic also requires visual acuity in the distance. Here we recommend glasses with bifocal glass.
The doctor checks the eyesight with a sieve test. That includes
Position of the eye axes
Central visual field
Optical Coherence Tomography
OCT is the only examination which can detect all the common causes of blindness at an early stage. The examination takes only a few minutes, thereby taking pictures of the eye and the background of the eye. The eye is also scanned and measured to 5 microns accurate by a harmless laser. Overall, more than 400 diseases can be detected with OCT. We focus on the three most common causes of blindness: age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. An objective and quantitative assessment of the vascular state of the ocular fundus in a non-invasive manner is also possible. Of course, other eye diseases such as retinal damage, venous occlusion or melanoma (skin cancer) are recognized.
Age-related Macular degeneration (AMD)
In macular degeneration, deposits near the site of clearest vision cause considerable damage. The reading ability can be lost. There are two forms: the frequent dry or the rarer, but rapidly progressing moist form. A precise documentation of the dimensions and localization is possible with the OCT.
Glaucoma is also called the "invisible" thief, because the patient notices the lasting damage until very late. Glaucoma slowly and secretly destroys the optic nerve. A very accurate diagnosis and follow-up control is possible by the OCT. Unlike the measurement of the intraocular pressure, the normal pressure glaucoma can also be diagnosed by the OCT. The detection rate thus increases from 47% to almost 90%.
OCT has also been used here for several years now with the possibility of macular imaging. This method is particularly well suited for the detection and evaluation of diabetic macular edema. All forms of retinopathy usually remain symptomless for the patient for a very long time.
With the vascular analysis, an objective and quantitative assessment of the vascular state of the ocular fundus in a non-invasive manner is possible. Based on a fundus image, the shape and thickness of the arteries and veins are assessed. These data serve the physician as an indication of possible cardiovascular diseases. Thus- in addition to eye diagnosis- it is possible to provide information about the condition of the vessel as well. The OCT enables a very high resolution which makes it clearly superior to older methods.
Even small exercises and rules help to reduce common eye problems like burning, itching or tears. Together with the employees we develop small exercise programs which won´t exceed the time required of 1-2 minutes per hour. Employees can view their programs at any time via a training portal and watch videos on the individual exercises. 6 months after our action, we make a follow up survey by asking them if the eye problems have been reduced.
We come to your company with a doctor and a medical expert. On one day, we will guide up to 32 employees through all three modules: Eye Test, Optical Coherence Tomography and Individual Eye Training. The modules can also be booked individually. Please feel free to contact us.
